Binghamton, NY – Dry and windy conditions will create an elevated wildfire risk across parts of New York on Tuesday, as gusts up to 25 mph and low humidity increase fire spread potential. Meanwhile, spring weather changes will bring showers and fluctuating temperatures later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service, counties at risk include the Finger Lakes, the Southern Tier, and Sullivan County, where the snowpack has fully melted. Winds will be between 15-25 mph, and humidity will drop into the 30% range, making conditions ripe for fire spread. Residents should avoid outdoor burning, use caution with ignition sources, and monitor updates from local fire officials.

By Wednesday, temperatures will cool, with a high near 48°F and a slight chance of showers in the afternoon. Rain chances increase Wednesday night into Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures reaching the mid-50s.

Friday brings a brief warm-up, with highs near 60°F and partly sunny skies before another round of showers moves in over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be rainy, with highs in the 60s and precipitation chances at 70-90%.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions by securing loose outdoor objects due to gusty winds and staying informed about potential fire restrictions. For more updates, visit National Weather Service.
