New York, NY – A dense fog advisory is in effect for parts of New York and New Jersey, with visibility dropping to as low as a quarter-mile in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Special Weather Statement for patchy dense fog until 10 AM EDT Sunday.
According to the NWS, fog is widespread over land and even more extensive over local waters, where a Marine Dense Fog Advisory is in place. Visibility over coastal waters may be reduced to one nautical mile or less, posing risks to mariners and ferry commuters.
Drivers should exercise caution, especially on bridges, highways, and near bodies of water. The NWS advises using low-beam headlights, allowing extra travel time, and staying alert for sudden visibility drops.
As conditions improve later in the morning, fog is expected to lift, but lingering moisture may keep roads damp. Check local traffic updates and weather alerts before heading out.
