New York, NY – Dangerous heat is gripping the New York metro and much of the tri-state area, with peak heat indices soaring to 110°F from Sunday through Tuesday, prompting widespread warnings and elevated health risks.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, an extreme heat warning remains in effect for NYC, northeast New Jersey, the Lower Hudson Valley, and inland Connecticut from 12 p.m. Sunday through 8 p.m. Tuesday. A heat advisory is also in place for western Long Island and coastal Connecticut, where heat indices will approach 105°F.
Maximum heat is expected between noon and 8 p.m. daily. NYC, Newark, and Bridgeport are forecast to see heat index values topping 104–109°F through Tuesday, while areas like Middletown and Hartford could spike to 111°F on Monday. Eastern Long Island and Montauk will be slightly cooler but still hover near 90°F.
Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Nighttime lows won’t offer much relief—temperatures will remain in the upper 70s to low 80s, especially in urban areas.
The heat may ease slightly by Thursday, but temperatures will still stay in the mid-80s to low 90s, with possible follow-up advisories for Suffolk County.
