Binghamton, N.Y. – The Southern Tier will shift into a much drier, sunnier pattern beginning Monday, September 8, as high pressure settles across New York. After patchy fog and cloud cover Sunday, skies will turn mostly sunny for the week ahead, with rainfall chances dropping to near zero.

According to the National Weather Service, Binghamton will see highs near 70 Sunday before skies clear overnight. Monday brings full sunshine with highs near 71, followed by warmer afternoons Tuesday through Thursday, climbing into the mid-70s. The NOAA 6–10 day precipitation outlook keeps much of New York in the “below normal” rainfall zone, raising concerns that this dry pattern could persist into mid-September.

For Broome County commuters, including those traveling along I-81 and Route 17, the week ahead promises dry roads and clear skies with no major travel delays. Farmers and gardeners, however, should prepare for drying soil conditions and limited rainfall for at least the next week.

While the clear skies make for excellent outdoor plans, officials encourage residents to monitor water use and avoid unnecessary outdoor burning as dryness builds.

The National Weather Service expects the dry stretch to hold through next weekend, with no measurable rain on the horizon for Binghamton.
