BUFFALO, NY – The morning sun glints off frozen rooftops and windshield frost, a deceptive calm before winter’s next push into western New York. Temperatures hover near 9°F, the air sharp and still, as another early-December snow event takes shape heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a clipper system is moving toward the Great Lakes, expected to spread light snow across the region Saturday morning through early Sunday. While total accumulations will stay light — a dusting to around 1 inch — even minor snow could reduce visibility and make travel slick along I-90 and I-190.

Saturday begins mostly cloudy with highs around 36°F, then snow develops by late morning. Winds from the southwest 10 to 13 mph, gusting near 20 mph, will cause areas of blowing snow in open fields. Conditions improve briefly Saturday night before a second wave of snow showers redevelops Sunday morning as colder air filters in.

By Monday, skies clear and temperatures tumble — morning lows near 11°F will make for a bitter start to the week. Tuesday and Wednesday bring another round of lake-effect and system snow, with gusty winds and travel impacts possible once again along the Lake Erie shoreline.

Meteorologists say this pattern could persist through mid-December (Dec 11–17), keeping Great Lakes snow belts active as holiday travel ramps up.

Plan extra time this weekend, especially early Sunday, and watch for icy bridges and reduced visibility during bursts of snow. Buffalo’s winter rhythm is building — steady, cold, and unmistakably here.
