Binghamton, NY – Black ice and snow are expected to create hazardous conditions tonight across the Binghamton region. Rain will turn into snow as temperatures drop, limiting snowfall but increasing the risk of ice.

According to the National Weather Service, the newly rain-washed roads will freeze as temperatures plunge into the mid-20s after midnight. Lake effect snow bands will begin developing overnight, driven by strong west-southwest winds. These bands could produce 2-3 inches of snow in areas near the Finger Lakes and Syracuse. By Thursday, snow bands may stretch to the Connecticut River.

Temperatures will remain frigid Thursday, with highs stuck in the 20s and wind chills making it feel closer to the 10s. Northern Oneida County could see lingering snowfall as snow bands shift south later in the day.

The National Weather Service advises caution on untreated roads, especially overnight and during morning commutes. Residents are urged to dress warmly and prepare for icy conditions.
