Albany, N.Y. – A break from July’s heat is arriving Friday across the Capital Region, with highs only reaching the mid-70s in Albany — the coolest day of the month so far.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a cold front that passed through early Friday has ushered in noticeably cooler and less humid air. Many areas across eastern New York will stay in the 70s today, with some valley locations barely hitting the low 80s.

By Saturday, temperatures will begin to climb again under partly sunny skies. Terrain areas will remain in the upper 70s, while valleys like Hudson and Schroon Lake may top out in the mid-80s. Humidity will gradually increase ahead of Sunday’s weather shift.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to return Sunday afternoon into the evening, especially in the Mohawk Valley, Catskills, and Berkshires. Outdoor plans could be affected by gusty winds and brief downpours.

Residents should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Sunday storms may bring localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Rain chances taper off by Monday, but more unsettled weather could return midweek.
