New York – Wind howls through the Capital Region this morning, rattling signs and pushing loose snow across sidewalks. Light flakes swirl in bursts, and the cold bites harder with each gust. It’s a raw start to the day, and conditions can change quickly on exposed roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through early morning hours. Northwest winds blow between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts reaching 55 mph in spots. The strongest winds focus on the Hudson Valley, Mohawk Valley, and higher terrain. Power outages and downed tree limbs remain possible.

Temperatures hover near 30 degrees, and light snow has already been reported around Albany and Rensselaer County. While accumulations stay minor today, blowing snow may briefly reduce visibility. Drivers should expect difficult handling on bridges, ramps, and north-south routes like I-87 and I-787, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Conditions improve gradually later today as winds ease and clouds break. Highs reach the mid-30s, allowing treated roads to recover. Tonight stays cold near 30 with calmer winds, setting up a quieter Sunday. Sunday turns partly sunny with highs near the upper 30s, though a few lingering snow showers remain possible early.

Attention shifts to Sunday night and Monday. Temperatures drop into the teens, then rebound Monday under sunshine with highs near the low 30s. By Monday night, snow showers become more likely again, with precipitation chances increasing into Tuesday. A rain-snow mix may develop as temperatures rise toward 40, a classic setup for slushy roads and refreeze risk after dark.

Looking ahead to Christmas travel, the pattern stays active. Gusty winds give way to snow chances and temperature swings that demand flexibility. Plan extra time, secure loose outdoor items, and monitor advisories closely. Are you traveling through the Capital Region soon? What conditions are you seeing right now?
