Boonville, New York – Snow is already coating roads across Northern Oneida County early Wednesday, and another several inches could make both the morning and evening commutes slow and hazardous before conditions ease after sunrise Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Northern Oneida County until 7 a.m. EST Thursday. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 8 inches are expected, with steady snowfall through the morning from a fast-moving clipper system.

Widespread snow will taper to scattered snow showers during the afternoon, but a sharp cold front will sweep through later Wednesday. Behind it, lake effect snow bands are expected to redevelop Wednesday evening and persist into early Thursday, potentially adding to totals in Boonville and surrounding higher terrain.

Roads including Route 12 and secondary county highways may become snow-covered and slippery, especially after sunset as temperatures drop. Reduced visibility could create sudden slowdowns.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, keep headlights on during snowfall, and check 511 for the latest state road conditions. Snow showers may linger into early Thursday before tapering, but slick spots could persist beyond the advisory period.
