New York – Rain taps against windshields across Buffalo this morning, but colder air is already lining up behind it, setting the stage for slick and icy travel as temperatures fall toward freezing.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, steady showers will continue through the day with highs near 49°F. By late evening into early Monday, colder air filters in, allowing rain to mix with light snow and freezing drizzle, especially south of Lake Ontario. Temperatures drop to around 30°F, just cold enough to create icy patches on untreated roads and sidewalks.

That transition is critical for drivers. Bridges, ramps, and side streets across I-90, Route 33, and local roads in Buffalo, Cheektowaga, and Tonawanda could become slick by early Monday. Even minimal ice can lead to dangerous travel conditions during the morning commute.

Monday stays chilly with highs near 37°F under mostly cloudy skies. Clearing arrives Monday night, but temperatures fall sharply into the low 20s, increasing the risk of refreezing and black ice into early Tuesday.

Conditions improve by Tuesday with sunshine and highs near 40°F, followed by a gradual warmup into the mid-40s by midweek. Another round of rain returns late week as spring patterns stay active across western New York.

Plan extra time for the Monday commute and watch for icy patches, especially in shaded areas. Early spring can still deliver winter-like hazards.
