Jamestown, N.Y. – Drivers along the Chautauqua Ridge could encounter slick, snow-covered roads before daybreak Tuesday as a narrow lake-effect band drops up to 3 inches of snow.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Chautauqua County until 6 a.m. Tuesday. An additional 2 to 3 inches of snow is expected along the Chautauqua Ridge, with closer to 1 inch elsewhere across the county.
The heaviest snowfall will stay confined to higher elevations, including areas south of Jamestown and along Route 394 and Interstate 86 near the ridge. Brief bursts of moderate snow may reduce visibility and quickly coat untreated roads overnight.
Local highway crews are monitoring conditions, but changing band placement could create uneven travel impacts across short distances. Motorists should allow extra time, reduce speed, and watch for drifting snow in open areas.
Conditions are expected to improve after 6 a.m. Tuesday as the snow band weakens and shifts. Additional updates will be issued if snowfall intensity increases overnight.
