Glens Falls, New York – Roads across the Adirondacks and southern Vermont could turn slick by late morning Friday as heavy snow and ice push into the region starting at 10 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. Friday until 1 p.m. Saturday for Hamilton and Warren counties in New York and Bennington and Windham counties in Vermont. Snow totals between 7 and 10 inches are expected, with elevations above 1,500 feet in Bennington County seeing up to 10 inches. Ice accumulations around one tenth of an inch could coat roads and power lines.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly along Interstate 87 near Glens Falls and Warrensburg, Route 9N through Bolton Landing, and Route 7 near Bennington. Snowfall rates between one half inch and 1 inch per hour are possible Friday evening into the overnight hours, especially in northern Warren County and across Windham County, including Brattleboro and Bellows Falls.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time and avoid sudden braking on bridges and overpasses. Wet snow combined with light ice may weigh down tree limbs, increasing the risk of scattered outages.

Snow and mixed precipitation will continue into Saturday afternoon before tapering. Additional advisories could be issued if ice totals increase.
