Albany, New York – Snow and pockets of freezing rain will spread across eastern New York and western New England by noon Wednesday, creating slick roads for the evening commute and lingering through 4 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon to 4 a.m. EST Thursday for the Capital District, Mohawk Valley, Saratoga region, northern Taconics, Schoharie County, northern Berkshire County in Massachusetts and southern Vermont. Snow totals of 1 to 4 inches are expected, along with a light glaze of ice in some areas.

Rain and snow will mix early this afternoon before transitioning to steadier snow. Localized freezing rain is possible, especially along and south of Interstate 90, including Albany, Schenectady and Troy. Even a thin glaze can create hazardous conditions on bridges and overpasses.

Communities such as Saratoga Springs, Amsterdam, Pittsfield, Bennington and Glens Falls may see accumulating snow through the evening. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility could slow travel during peak commute hours.

Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and plan for longer travel times. Conditions are expected to improve after 4 a.m. Thursday as precipitation tapers, though isolated slick spots may linger into early morning.
