Albany, NY – Parts of Upstate New York will face icy conditions later today as the National Weather Service issues a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing rain across northern Warren, Hamilton, and northern Fulton counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday, with a light glaze to around one-tenth of an inch of ice expected. Locations including Bolton Landing, Warrensburg, North Creek, Wells, Caroga Lake, Long Lake, and Johnsburg are among the communities likely to see impacts.
Forecasters warn that even light icing can create hazardous conditions on sidewalks, roads, and bridges, especially as temperatures fall around sunset. Elevated surfaces—such as overpasses—are typically the first to become slick as freezing rain begins to accumulate.
According to the NWS, residents should prepare for slippery travel late this afternoon into the late-night hours. While the total ice amounts are expected to remain on the lighter side, the timing near the evening commute may create localized hazards across the Adirondack region. Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain extra stopping distance, and remain alert for untreated surfaces.
Freezing rain is expected to end after midnight, with temperatures slowly rising overnight, helping improve road conditions into early Sunday morning.
If you live in northern Warren, Hamilton, or northern Fulton counties, have you seen any early icing or slick spots developing? What are road conditions like in your area?
