Boonville, New York – Snow, sleet and a light glaze of ice will continue to create slippery roads in Northern Oneida County through 7 a.m. EST Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until daybreak Saturday, with additional snow and sleet accumulations up to 3 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze.
Road conditions will worsen through the evening commute.
Mixed precipitation is expected to impact Route 12 and secondary roads around Boonville, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces. Even a thin glaze of ice can significantly reduce traction overnight as temperatures hover near freezing.
Slippery spots may develop quickly after sunset.
Periods of sleet could compact on roadways, making plowing less effective until precipitation tapers early Saturday morning. Reduced visibility may also occur during steadier bursts of snow.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 New York for updated road conditions before traveling.
Precipitation tapers toward sunrise Saturday, but slick patches may linger into the early morning hours. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday.
