Burlington, VT – Holiday travelers in the Northeast should prepare for a wintry Thanksgiving as forecasters predict snow spreading into northern New York and Vermont on Thursday, November 27. The National Weather Service (NWS) Burlington reports that lake-effect snow will begin early Thursday morning, continuing through Friday night.

According to the NWS, the heaviest snow will develop east of Lake Ontario, where totals could exceed 4 inches, with lighter but steady accumulations expected across the Adirondacks and northern Vermont. The snow will follow a rainy Wednesday, as colder air sweeps into the region overnight.

Snow is expected to peak before dawn Friday and taper off by Friday night. Forecasters say confidence is moderate in both the snow’s timing and accumulation amounts, but holiday travelers should plan for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially across elevated terrain.

Temperatures will remain cold into the weekend as high pressure settles in behind the system. Those traveling for Thanksgiving are urged to monitor updated forecasts for changing snow intensity and timing.
