Burlington, VT – Multiple rounds of thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and small hail to much of Vermont and northern New York today, with the greatest threat arriving by late afternoon and continuing into the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather covers cities including Burlington, Rutland, Middlebury, and Plattsburgh. Storms may bring gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail, with very low tornado potential. A Marginal Risk (Level 1) extends east into parts of New Hampshire including Littleton and Conway.

Communities from Glens Falls and Saratoga Springs to St. Albans and Montpelier should prepare for isolated downed limbs, power outages, and localized flooding during intense bursts of rain. The NWS notes high confidence in several waves of storms but lower confidence in their exact timing. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware throughout the day.

Drivers should watch for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially on I-89 and U.S. Route 7. Charge phones, secure outdoor items, and be ready to shelter if warnings are issued.

More updates are expected as conditions evolve. Severe thunderstorm warnings may be issued with little notice.
