Albany, New York – Snow is spreading across the southern Adirondacks and southern Vermont early Wednesday, setting up slick mountain roads and reduced visibility that could disrupt both commutes before tapering after sunrise Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Thursday for Hamilton, Northern Fulton and Northern Herkimer counties in New York, as well as for elevations above 1,500 feet in Bennington County, Vermont. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches are expected in the Adirondacks, with 3 to 6 inches above 1,500 feet around Bennington, Pownal, Stamford and Woodford State Park.

A fast-moving clipper system will bring widespread snow through Wednesday morning. A cold front crossing the region later today could trigger scattered snow showers and isolated snow squalls, briefly dropping visibility and coating roads in a short time. Behind the front, lake effect and upslope snow will linger into early Thursday.

Drivers along Route 28 near Old Forge, Route 30 through Hamilton County and Route 9 in Bennington County should expect snow-covered pavement and changing conditions. Slow down, leave extra stopping distance and monitor 511 for updated road reports. Additional bursts of snow could redevelop before the advisory expires early Thursday.
