Lake Pleasant, NY – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through early Thursday morning for parts of the southern Adirondacks of New York and southern Vermont, where heavy snow continues to fall this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Albany.
Forecasters report that 7 to 12 inches of accumulation are expected across Hamilton, Northern Herkimer, and Northern Fulton counties, with locally higher amounts up to 14 inches possible along the south-facing slopes of the Adirondacks.
In Bennington and Western Windham counties of Vermont, totals will vary by elevation—2 to 5 inches below 1,000 feet and 6 to 12 inches at higher elevations. Snowfall rates may exceed 1 inch per hour at times, especially during the evening commute.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous, with reduced visibility in heavy bursts of snow. The National Weather Service cautions that drivers should slow down, allow extra travel time, and carry emergency supplies including blankets, flashlights, and food.
Additional snow of 3 to 8 inches is forecast through tonight, with the heaviest bands targeting the central Adirondacks and southern Green Mountains. Conditions will gradually improve by early Thursday, though slippery surfaces and patchy ice may linger into the morning commute.
Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts and check 511NY or 511VT for updated road conditions.
