Albany, New York – Slick roads could develop quickly overnight across higher elevations of southern Vermont, where light freezing rain is expected to create icy travel conditions before the Friday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for elevations above 1,500 feet in the southern Green Mountains, including areas near Stratton, Mount Snow, and Londonderry. Light freezing rain is expected to persist through early Friday morning, with ice accumulations ranging from a glaze up to 0.10 inches.

While lower elevations across eastern New York and western New England will mainly see spotty rain, untreated surfaces in higher terrain may become hazardous. Roads such as Vermont Route 9 and Route 100 could turn slick, especially on bridges and shaded stretches.

Residents in affected areas should use caution during the early morning hours, allowing extra travel time and avoiding steep or untreated roads if possible. Sidewalks and driveways may also become icy.

Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning Friday as temperatures rise above freezing, though additional updates or advisories may be issued if icing becomes more widespread.
