Albany, NY – The National Weather Service in Albany reports that while minor improvements have occurred across parts of eastern New York, drought conditions remain significant across several counties heading into the final week of October.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, portions of the Mohawk Valley, southern Adirondacks, and northern Berkshires continue to experience D1 (Moderate Drought) conditions. Meanwhile, northern Washington County extending into southern Vermont remains under D2 (Severe Drought).

Forecasters note that the Catskills and mid-Hudson Valley have seen slight relief following limited rainfall earlier this month, but overall soil moisture and streamflow levels remain below seasonal averages.

No significant rain is forecast through the weekend, though potential rainfall next week could bring short-term improvement if widespread precipitation develops.

The next official drought update is scheduled for October 30, 2025, and residents are encouraged to continue conserving water where possible.
