Rensselaer, New York – Drivers in New York’s Capital Region should expect patchy fog and rising heat Tuesday morning as temperatures surge toward 78°F by afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, patchy fog could develop as early as 4 a.m. Tuesday across Rensselaer, Albany, and Troy. Visibility may drop sharply during morning commutes, particularly on I-90 and Route 4. Light winds and clearing skies will follow, leading to a sunny, warm afternoon.
Tuesday night stays mostly cloudy with lows around 55°F, followed by a repeat of mild conditions on Wednesday. However, rain enters the picture Wednesday night, when scattered showers are expected after 8 p.m. The chance of rain increases to 50%, marking the beginning of a soggy stretch.
Thursday brings a stronger chance of showers, with daytime highs around 71°F. Thursday night poses the biggest disruption, with likely showers and a possible thunderstorm before 2 a.m. Friday. Flash ponding and reduced visibility could affect nighttime drivers.
By Friday, scattered morning showers may linger, but partial sunshine returns. Highs will hover near 73°F. The weekend won’t offer much relief—Saturday and Sunday both carry a 60% chance of rain with temperatures holding in the low 70s during the day and dipping to the low 50s overnight.
Prepare now: delay non-essential travel during fog, use headlights on rural routes, and keep devices charged ahead of Thursday night storms.
Looking ahead, daily rain chances persist through Sunday, with Monday offering a slight break as sunshine returns and highs dip just below 70°F.
