
New York – Five tornadoes have been confirmed across the Albany forecast area, creating significant impact on Tuesday, July 16. The National Weather Service Albany released detailed maps outlining the tornado tracks, revealing widespread damage and the severity of the storm.
According to the NWS Albany, the tornadoes affected multiple locations, including Oxbow Lake, Chestertown, Wells, Great Sacandaga Lake, and Ohio, NY. The tornado at Oxbow Lake was rated EF-1, with estimated maximum wind speeds of 100 mph, covering a path length of 0.55 miles and a maximum width of 200 yards. The Chestertown tornado, also rated EF-1, spanned 0.55 miles with winds up to 100 mph.
Wells, NY, experienced another EF-1 tornado, with winds reaching 100 mph over a 1.04-mile path. Great Sacandaga Lake’s tornado, rated EF-1, had maximum winds of 110 mph, stretching 8.43 miles. Lastly, Ohio, NY, saw an EF-1 tornado with 90 mph winds and a path length of 1.50 miles.
