New York, NY – Damaging winds and isolated severe thunderstorms are possible across parts of New York between 2 and 10 p.m. Tuesday, prompting a Level 2 severe weather risk for the lower Hudson Valley and parts of northeast New Jersey.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, scattered strong to severe storms may develop Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially west of the city. The primary threat is damaging wind gusts, though heavy rain and frequent lightning are also possible. Isolated thunderstorms could also pop up early Tuesday morning, but these are not expected to be severe.
Areas at highest risk include White Plains, Newburgh, and the I-87 corridor through the Hudson Valley. The threat lessens eastward, with Long Island, New York City, and coastal Connecticut under a lower risk (Level 1), where storms are expected to be more isolated.
Residents should remain weather-aware, especially during the evening commute. Keep cell phones charged, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, and prepare for potential power outages. Use NOAA Weather Radio or smartphone alerts to receive warnings in real-time.
Storms are expected to weaken by late Tuesday night, but additional watches or warnings could still be issued if the system intensifies.
