Albany, New York – Air conditioners will be working overtime Tuesday as a blistering heat wave tightens its grip on the Capital Region. Residents in Albany, Saratoga Springs, and Schroon Lake should prepare for heat index values approaching 107°F — among the highest readings of the summer.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with dangerously hot and humid air threatening heat-related illnesses throughout the day. Highs will top out near 99°F, with humidity amplifying conditions. Peak heat is expected between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., especially along major roadways like Interstate 87 and Route 9.
Cities including Hudson, Troy, Ballston Spa, and Clifton Park will face similar conditions. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid strenuous activity, drink water frequently, and check on the elderly or anyone without air conditioning. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends limiting outdoor work and taking shaded breaks.
Even Tuesday night will offer little relief, with overnight lows hovering near 74°F. While storms may cool things slightly by midweek, heat and humidity will dominate the region through at least Thursday.
⚠️ Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone collapses or becomes disoriented, call 911 immediately and move them to a cool, shaded area.
