New York State Trooper Shot on Southern State Parkway; Manhunt Underway for Suspect

West Hempstead, NY – Authorities are searching for a suspect involved in the shooting of a New York State Trooper on the Southern State Parkway late Thursday night.

Around 11:45 p.m., the trooper was reportedly shot near Exit 17 in West Hempstead, Nassau County. According to New York State Police, the suspect, described as a dark-skinned male, fled the scene in a black sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger with a New Jersey temporary license tag of 997636T. The vehicle also features custom matte gray dual exhaust tips, police noted.

The injured trooper is currently in stable condition at a local hospital as the investigation continues. Law enforcement is requesting public assistance to locate the suspect or the vehicle involved. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact New York State Police at (631) 756-3300.

Officials are treating the case as a high-priority investigation and are actively seeking witnesses who may have seen the vehicle or suspect.
