Albany, NY – A wave of snow squalls is forecast to hit New York’s Mohawk Valley and surrounding areas Monday afternoon, bringing potential travel disruptions and safety concerns. Residents along I-90 and nearby roadways are urged to stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Albany, snow squalls could result in brief whiteout conditions, gusty winds, and quick snow accumulations of up to an inch. The most significant impact is expected between late afternoon and evening. Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak squall activity and to carry winter safety kits in their vehicles.

The extended forecast shows colder temperatures moving into the region, with Monday’s high near 36°F, dropping to 20°F overnight. Winds could intensify during snow squalls, reducing visibility and making roadways hazardous. Areas like Old Forge and the western Adirondacks may experience heavier lake-effect snowfall by Tuesday night, with a 50% chance of six inches or more.

Tuesday brings drier conditions with a high of 27°F, but temperatures will continue dropping into the teens by midweek. Wednesday’s high will struggle to reach 23°F, while lows could hit 11°F overnight. These colder conditions are expected to persist into Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 28°F.

Travelers should monitor weather updates and prepare for icy roadways through midweek. For the latest weather alerts and advisories, visit the National Weather Service website.
