Syracuse, NY – A fast-moving snow squall is sweeping through Central New York, bringing whiteout conditions and dangerous travel impacts across several counties, including Onondaga, Tompkins, and Cortland. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton has issued a Snow Squall Warning until 10:45 AM EST Wednesday.

According to NWS, the squall was detected at 10:24 AM moving southeast at 40 mph, producing intense bursts of heavy snow and wind gusts exceeding 50 mph. Visibility is rapidly dropping to less than one-quarter mile, creating near-zero visibility on roads.

The warning includes major highways such as Interstate 90 (Exits 34-34A), Interstate 81 (Exits 9-20), and Interstate 86/Route 17 (Exits 38-46). Locations impacted include Syracuse, Ithaca, Cortland, Corning, and Norwich.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, turn on headlights, and avoid unnecessary travel as conditions can deteriorate within minutes. Wind gusts may also knock down tree limbs and create additional hazards.
