Rensselaer, NY – Snow and freezing rain are set to complicate Monday’s morning commute across eastern New York, with slippery roads and limited visibility expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, light snow will begin tonight, accumulating up to 2 inches in most areas, with higher amounts of 4 inches possible in the Catskills and Adirondacks. By early Monday, snow will transition to freezing rain and then rain as temperatures rise, creating slick conditions during the peak commute hours. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, especially on untreated roadways.

Monday’s high will reach around 42°F with south winds increasing to 5-7 mph. Light rain will continue through the afternoon before tapering off overnight, with gusts up to 21 mph developing. Travelers on I-90, I-87, and local highways should allow extra time and monitor road conditions.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring mostly cloudy skies and a milder high of 52°F, but the region could see another round of rain on Wednesday. Rain showers are likely during the morning hours, with a 50% chance of precipitation lasting through the afternoon. Temperatures will peak near 45°F.

By Thursday, drier conditions will return, with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 30s, providing a brief break from the wintry mix.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions throughout the week. Stay updated with forecasts, travel alerts, and winter weather advisories to ensure safe travel.
