Rochester, NY – A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for multiple counties in New York and Pennsylvania until 7 p.m. EDT Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The affected areas include both central and western New York, as well as parts of northeastern Pennsylvania.
According to the NWS in Buffalo, the watch covers Cayuga, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne, and Oswego counties, along with the nearshore and open waters of Lake Ontario from Hamlin Beach to Mexico Bay. The NWS in Binghamton has also extended the watch to Broome, Chemung, Cortland, Onondaga, Tioga, and Tompkins counties in central New York, as well as Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, and Yates counties. Additionally, northeastern Pennsylvania counties including Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming are under the watch.
Residents in these areas should prepare for potentially damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and lightning. Localized flash flooding and power outages are possible. Boaters on Lake Ontario should exercise caution as strong winds and hazardous conditions may develop.
Authorities urge residents to stay informed by monitoring local weather updates and taking necessary precautions. If a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, seek shelter indoors away from windows and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
