New York, NY – Heavy rain across the Tri-State area could bring more than an inch of precipitation to parts of Connecticut and New York by early Wednesday, with additional lighter showers expected throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, totals from overnight and early Tuesday rainfall have already surpassed 1.3 inches in areas like Norwich, East Haddam, and Waterbury, with NYC and Long Island seeing 0.48″ to 0.57″. A second round of lighter rain will push through Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., dropping another 0.01″ to 0.12″ across the region.

Cities including Bridgeport, Poughkeepsie, and Middletown are expected to receive up to 0.08″ on Wednesday, while New Haven and New London will likely see closer to 0.06″. Eastern Long Island and New Jersey spots like Montauk and Trenton will receive minimal rainfall—generally under 0.02″.

Drivers should remain cautious on wet roads and plan for slower commutes Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Residents are advised to check drains for blockages and avoid low-lying flood-prone areas, especially in parts of Connecticut that already saw heavy rain overnight.

Scattered showers could linger into Wednesday night, with clearer skies expected by Thursday morning.
