Binghamton, NY – The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued Wind Advisories for a wide area of central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania, warning of strong west winds developing Wednesday afternoon and continuing overnight into early Thursday.

Depending on location, advisories begin between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday and remain in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday. Impacted areas include Syracuse, Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Monticello.

Forecasters expect sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts between 50 and 55 mph, strongest during and just after the cold front passage Wednesday evening. Brief rain showers accompanying the front could contain locally higher gusts.

These winds may down trees and power lines, leading to scattered power outages across the region. High-profile vehicles could also experience hazardous travel conditions, especially on I-81, I-88, and Route 17.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind hours, and report power outages to local utilities.
