Binghamton, NY – A quiet and cloudy day is in store across the Southern Tier and Northeast Pennsylvania, with no precipitation expected until later tonight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton. Highs today will reach the upper 30s to mid-40s across the region.
Northwest flow continues to push lingering lake clouds across central New York, but high pressure to the north is keeping conditions dry through the afternoon. The next system, currently over Iowa, is expected to slide east and southeast overnight, bringing a chance for light precipitation into early Wednesday.
According to NWS, portions of northeast Pennsylvania and the southern Catskills may see a light rain/snow mix develop late tonight. Higher elevations east of I-81—including areas near the Wyoming Valley and the Catskill foothills—could see between 0.5 and 1 inch of snow by Wednesday morning. Lower-elevation valleys will mainly experience light rain or a mixed wintry drizzle, with little to no accumulation.
Forecasters emphasize that snow amounts will be light, and impacts should remain minimal, though brief slick spots are possible on untreated or elevated surfaces early Wednesday.
Quiet weather is expected to return by Wednesday afternoon as the system pulls away, allowing for a stretch of mostly dry conditions through Friday. Temperatures will remain seasonably cool, with clouds continuing to filter across the region at times.
Residents across central New York, the Finger Lakes, NEPA, and the southern Catskills should monitor updated forecasts for any overnight travel impacts, especially in higher terrain where accumulations are most likely.
