Binghamton, NY – A weak weather system moving to the south of the region tonight will bring areas of light rain and snow to parts of New York and Pennsylvania, potentially creating minor travel hazards in higher terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, precipitation chances increase tonight across the Southern Tier and Northeast Pennsylvania, with the highest likelihood centered around Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Montrose, and Honesdale. Forecast probabilities range from 20–35% across the Binghamton and Elmira areas to over 50% in Northeast Pennsylvania, where colder air may support snow.

Forecasters say a few slick spots may develop overnight, especially in parts of Northeast Pennsylvania where snow is most likely. Locations such as Montrose, Milford, and the northern Poconos could see light accumulations on grassy or elevated surfaces.

Most locations from Syracuse to Ithaca and Oneonta are expected to remain dry, with only very low chances for precipitation. Areas that do receive rain or snow should see it taper off before sunrise Wednesday as the system moves east.

Drivers traveling late tonight or early Wednesday morning—particularly in NE Pennsylvania—are urged to use caution and watch for isolated icy patches, especially on untreated secondary roads and higher-elevation routes.
