New York – A thin glaze is forming on sidewalks and untreated roads across Binghamton this morning, and it’s nearly invisible. Temperatures hover at 32 degrees at Greater Binghamton Airport, where fog and freezing drizzle are reducing visibility to a quarter mile.

A Special Weather Statement remains in effect through mid-morning for central New York and nearby northeast Pennsylvania. Areas of freezing drizzle have developed, creating slick spots on bridges, driveways, and secondary roads. Even a light glaze can turn intersections into skating rinks.

Slow down on I-81 and Route 17. Leave extra space between vehicles. Use caution on untreated sidewalks and parking lots. Conditions can change block by block.

Patchy fog lingers into late morning, with clouds dominating the sky. Highs reach near 42 degrees today, but temperatures fall back toward freezing tonight. Rain showers develop before early morning, then transition to snow showers and sleet. Minor accumulations under a half inch are possible.

Friday stays unsettled. Rain and snow showers are likely, especially before midday. Highs hold near 41 degrees. Any burst of heavier precipitation could briefly coat grassy areas.

Saturday trends cooler with scattered snow showers. Highs reach the upper 30s. By Sunday, snow showers become more likely, with highs in the mid-30s and lows dipping into the 20s Sunday night.

Watch for flash freezing after sunset this weekend. Wet pavement can refreeze quickly once temperatures fall.
