Binghamton, NY – Rain is expected to return across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania early this week, with the highest chances coming Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.

Forecasters said areas including Binghamton, Ithaca, Scranton, Syracuse, and Wilkes-Barre could see rain chances rise to 65–75% by Tuesday, September 23. While storms are possible, they are not expected to reach severe levels. Showers are forecast to linger through midweek, with a 25–40% chance of precipitation continuing into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday afternoon brings the greatest likelihood of thunderstorms. The system is expected to move east across the Southern Tier, Catskills, and Pocono regions, bringing periods of rain that could slow commutes and outdoor activities. Rain probabilities peak at 75% in several cities, including Binghamton, Elmira, and Ithaca, before gradually tapering down later in the week.

Drivers and travelers should prepare for wet roads and occasional delays, especially on major highways such as I-81, I-88, and I-380. Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts for updates as rainfall amounts and storm timing may shift.
