Binghamton, NY – A weak wave of low pressure is expected to pass just south of the region tonight, bringing light rain to portions of northeastern Pennsylvania, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton. The rest of Central New York will stay mostly dry before a second system arrives late in the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures across the region will hover in the upper 30s to low 40s tonight, with slightly cooler readings in higher elevations. Areas such as Montrose, Scranton, and Wilkes-Barre may see light precipitation overnight, while towns in Central New York—including Binghamton, Cortland, Oneonta, and Ithaca—remain mostly dry.

Forecasters say attention then turns to Sunday, when a weak front and clipper system will track just north of the region. That system may bring scattered rain or snow showers, particularly during the late morning and afternoon. While accumulation is not expected, brief reductions in visibility and wet roads are possible with any passing showers.

Probability of precipitation climbs into the 40–60 percent range for many locations on Sunday, including Syracuse, Cortland, Norwich, and Binghamton, before tapering off Sunday night. Temperatures through the weekend will remain seasonably cool, with highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s and overnight lows dipping into the upper 20s and low 30s across much of the Southern Tier and Central New York.

The workweek begins colder on Monday as a secondary cold push moves through, dropping temperatures into the mid-30s to low 40s with lingering low-end precipitation chances.

Drivers should remain aware of changing conditions throughout the weekend, especially early Sunday when mixed precipitation becomes more likely.
