New York — A cold gray sky hangs over Buffalo this morning as scattered snow showers sweep across western New York. Gusty winds whip across Lake Erie, pushing bursts of snow through city streets and along major highways.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, snow showers will develop through the afternoon with temperatures near 36°F. West winds may gust up to 30 mph today, while stronger gusts approaching 49 mph are possible as a storm system strengthens heading into Friday. Accumulations remain light, but quick bursts of snow may briefly coat colder surfaces.

Drivers along Interstate 90, the Kensington Expressway, and Route 33 could encounter sudden visibility drops when snow showers pass through. Wet pavement combined with freezing temperatures later can quickly create slick spots on bridges and overpasses. Plan extra time if traveling across the Buffalo metro today.

Conditions remain breezy heading into Friday as temperatures climb toward 42°F. Rain and snow showers may mix at times, especially during the afternoon. Winds continue gusting across Niagara County and the Lake Erie shoreline, occasionally rattling traffic on exposed roadways.

By Saturday, March 14, colder air settles back into western New York. Mostly cloudy skies hold temperatures near 34°F across Buffalo, Cheektowaga, and Amherst. A few passing snow showers remain possible Saturday night as lake moisture lingers.

Another system arrives Sunday with more widespread snow showers transitioning to rain as temperatures climb near 52°F. Breezy conditions could once again affect travel around the Lake Erie waterfront and along the Thruway corridor.

Looking ahead, a milder pattern may gradually develop across the eastern United States late next week. For now, western New York remains locked in a classic March mix of snow, wind, and brief thaws.
