New York, New York – Light snow continues to move through portions of the region this morning, creating slippery travel conditions and reduced visibility across parts of the metro area.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in New York, snowfall is light to locally moderate, with the steadiest snow falling across southern Connecticut and much of Long Island. Snow is expected to continue through the morning hours before tapering off around or shortly after 8:30 a.m.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain minor, generally less than one inch, even light accumulations may lead to slick conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Visibility may be reduced to 1 to 3 miles at times, with occasional drops to near one-half mile in heavier bursts of snow.

The most affected travel corridors include Interstate 95, Interstate 495, Interstate 278, and major parkways across Long Island and the New York City metro area. Drivers should be prepared for slower travel speeds and variable road conditions, especially during the morning commute.

The National Weather Service advises motorists to proceed with caution, allow extra spacing between vehicles, and reduce speed where snow is sticking to the roadway. Roads may appear wet but could be slick in shaded or untreated areas.

Although impacts are expected to remain minor, the timing of the snow may affect commuters, transit riders, and early-morning workers traveling through the region. Conditions should gradually improve later this morning as snowfall diminishes and crews continue treating roads.

No significant additional accumulation is expected once the snow exits, and travel conditions are forecast to improve by late morning.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official weather updates and use caution while traveling until snow clears from area roadways.
