New York, New York – Blue skies and comfortable air are giving the city a brief break, but a much hotter pattern is already taking shape. The pleasant conditions won’t last long. Temperatures will climb steadily over the next two days before Wednesday brings the hottest weather of the week, creating uncomfortable conditions for commuters, outdoor workers, and anyone spending extended time outside.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, no hazardous weather is expected through today. The agency’s Hazardous Weather Outlook instead highlights increasing heat and humidity beginning Tuesday and continuing through Wednesday. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the lower and middle 90s, while heat index values climb into the mid-90s. Localized heat index readings near 100 degrees are possible Wednesday.

Today’s sunshine offers an opportunity to prepare before the hotter air arrives. High temperatures remain in the mid-80s, but Tuesday jumps to around 91 degrees before Wednesday peaks near 96 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Overnight temperatures also become warmer, offering less relief after sunset.

Across the broader Northeast, high pressure keeps weather quiet while severe storms and flash flooding remain focused well west of the region across parts of the Plains and Midwest. For New York City, the primary concern is heat rather than storms through midweek.

If you’re traveling around Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, or nearby suburbs, drink plenty of water, limit strenuous afternoon activity, and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles. Those without reliable air conditioning should identify cooling options before Wednesday afternoon.

The hottest conditions should begin easing Thursday as highs fall back toward 90 degrees. Additional advisories could be issued if confidence increases that heat index values will approach or exceed advisory criteria.
