New York, New York – A strong cold front sweeping eastward is expected to bring snow showers and hazardous travel conditions to the New York City area later today and tonight.
According to the National Weather Service, the cold front is moving across the eastern United States, spreading snow showers along the East Coast, including parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light in the New York City area, brief bursts of snow could lead to rapid visibility reductions and slick road conditions.
Forecasters warn that snow showers may develop quickly, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours, as colder air moves in behind the front. Gusty winds accompanying the system could further reduce visibility during heavier bursts.
Drivers traveling on Interstate 95, Interstate 87, Interstate 278, and major city parkways should be prepared for sudden changes in road conditions. Bridges, overpasses, and elevated roadways may become slick, particularly after sunset as temperatures fall.
While more intense blizzard conditions are expected farther west across the Northern Plains and near the Great Lakes, the National Weather Service emphasizes that even lighter snow showers along the East Coast can still pose travel risks due to timing and rapid onset.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts, slow down during snow showers, and allow extra travel time this evening.
The National Weather Service noted that colder air will continue filtering in behind the front, keeping winter conditions in place overnight.
