New York, NY – A cold front sweeping through the region this morning is bringing a sharp shift in conditions, with strong northwest winds and temperatures holding steady in the 50s across New York City, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and nearby Connecticut communities. Residents can expect a blustery and noticeably cooler feel through Sunday evening as the front moves offshore.

According to the National Weather Service New York office, wind gusts are expected to reach 40 to 45 mph in many locations today, including areas from Newark and Paramus to Bridgeport and Riverhead. Coastal sections of Long Island may experience even higher gusts, with isolated pockets reaching the upper 40s. These winds may create difficult travel for high-profile vehicles, especially along elevated roadways and near coastal bridges.

Temperatures will remain almost flat throughout the day, with highs ranging from 50° to 56°, depending on location. Due to the cold air funneling in behind the front, some areas may not warm much at all and could even see temperatures slip slightly during the afternoon. Locations west of the Hudson, including West Milford and Morristown, will feel the coolest readings in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Wind chills may dip into the low 40s at times, particularly during stronger gusts. The NWS notes that scattered tree limbs and minor debris on roads are possible, and residents should secure outdoor items such as patio furniture and decorations.

Gusts are expected to gradually decrease overnight, with calmer conditions returning Monday.
