New York – Early sunlight glints off glass towers while mild March air settles over Manhattan this morning. Streets remain dry for now, but a midweek shift could bring wet commutes and breezy conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, temperatures will trend well above seasonal averages through midweek across the New York City metro area. Clear skies and light southwest winds are helping push daytime highs toward the upper 60s.
Drivers across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Jersey City should expect smooth travel early today. Visibility remains excellent across I-95, the FDR Drive, and the New Jersey Turnpike.
The warm stretch strengthens by midweek.
By Wednesday afternoon, Central Park could reach around 64°F, delivering a mild taste of spring across the five boroughs. Sidewalks, parks, and waterfront paths along the Hudson and East Rivers may see heavier foot traffic.
To be fair, the calm stretch won’t last long.
Meteorologists are now tracking a system approaching from the west that will pull deeper moisture toward the Mid-Atlantic. Clouds thicken late Wednesday before steady rain arrives Wednesday night across the metro.
Rain continues into Thursday morning and may linger through the afternoon commute. Wet pavement and reduced visibility could slow drivers along I-278, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and the Lincoln Tunnel approaches.
Breezy conditions may also develop, adding to travel delays near bridges and exposed roadways.
By Thursday night, colder air slips into the region. Temperatures may dip into the mid-30s, though most precipitation should taper before any snow concerns develop in the city.
Spring break travel is ramping up nationwide this month. Expect heavier airport traffic at LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark Liberty heading into the weekend.
More updates are expected as this midweek rain system approaches. Seeing sunshine or clouds where you are right now?
