New York, NY – Residents across the New York City metro area and surrounding counties will notice a sharp drop in temperatures this weekend as a cold front pushes through Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service New York office, high temperatures on Friday, September 19, are expected to reach the low to mid-80s across much of the region, with some areas in New Jersey climbing into the upper 80s. However, the warm air will not last long.

By Friday night, cooler air will move in, dropping overnight lows into the mid-40s to mid-50s across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Interior areas such as Liberty, Poughkeepsie, and Waterbury may see lows in the mid-40s, while coastal locations, including Long Island and New London, will stay closer to the upper 50s.

Saturday’s high temperatures will be noticeably cooler, topping out in the low to mid-70s across the tri-state area. Saturday night will bring another round of chilly air, with lows once again dipping into the 40s and 50s.

On Sunday, September 21, the cooler trend continues, with highs mostly in the upper 60s to low 70s. Areas such as Montauk, Liberty, and Riverhead are forecast to stay in the upper 60s, while inland New Jersey and the Hudson Valley remain in the low 70s.

The National Weather Service noted that this shift marks the first strong cold front of the season, bringing more fall-like conditions after an extended stretch of late-summer warmth.
