New York, NY – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for portions of the New York City region from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon, with accumulating snow expected to impact travel, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch covers large portions of southeast New York, northeast New Jersey, and southern Connecticut, including New York City, Long Island, Rockland, Westchester, Orange, and Putnam counties, as well as Bergen, Essex, Union, Hudson, and Passaic counties in New Jersey and Fairfield County in Connecticut.

According to the National Weather Service office in New York, total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches are possible across the region. The watch is valid from 4 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday, with snow expected to develop Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday.

Forecasters say the developing storm system may lead to slippery and hazardous road conditions, particularly during the Friday evening commute, when snowfall rates could increase. Travel disruptions are possible on major roadways, bridges, and untreated surfaces.

While confidence is increasing that measurable snowfall will occur, the National Weather Service emphasized that forecast details — including exact snow totals and the potential need for warnings or advisories — will become clearer as the storm approaches.

Residents are advised to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for possible winter travel impacts. Commuters and delivery drivers should allow extra travel time Friday evening and early Saturday, especially in urban corridors where traffic congestion could worsen under snowy conditions.

The Winter Storm Watch means conditions are favorable for significant snowfall but are not yet certain. Additional updates are expected over the next 24 to 36 hours.
