New York, NY – A Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EDT this morning, followed by a Freeze Watch from late tonight through Monday morning for portions of southern New York, northern New Jersey, and southern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in New York.
Forecasters expect morning lows in the mid-30s across Orange, Putnam, Western Passaic, and Northern Westchester Counties, as well as northern portions of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London Counties in Connecticut. These cold temperatures are producing widespread frost, particularly in inland valleys and rural areas.
By late tonight, even colder air will settle over the region. Under clear skies, temperatures could fall as low as 28–31°F, prompting a Freeze Watch that will remain in effect through early Monday morning.
“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation,” warned the NWS early Sunday. Residents are advised to cover or bring in outdoor plants, disconnect hoses, and insulate exposed pipes before the coldest air arrives overnight.
Temperatures are expected to recover into the 50s Monday afternoon before another chilly morning midweek.
