New York, NY – Residents across the New York tri-state region are bracing for a sharp drop in temperatures and a wintry mix late Friday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in New York.

The forecast shows overnight lows ranging from the upper teens in interior Connecticut to near 30°F around New York City and Long Island. Areas north and west, including Liberty and Middletown, could see lows near 16°F, signaling one of the coldest nights of the season so far.

According to the NWS, light icing is possible from northern New Jersey through the lower Hudson Valley and into parts of southern Connecticut, including New Haven and East Haddam. Ice accumulations are expected to remain under 0.1 inch but could still cause slick roads and sidewalks by early Saturday.

Snowfall totals are forecast to stay minimal, generally less than one inch across the metro area, with slightly higher chances north of I-84. While major accumulations are not anticipated, forecasters caution that patchy ice and brief snow showers could affect early weekend travel.

Drivers are urged to slow down on untreated roads and bridges, as even light glaze can make conditions hazardous. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the upper 30s and low 40s by Saturday afternoon, reducing ice concerns.
