New York, NY – Temperatures across the Tri-State area are expected to climb into the 80s Friday, but a drop in humidity will make conditions feel more tolerable than earlier this week.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, dewpoints are forecast to fall into the 50s and low 60s by this afternoon, signaling a shift to drier air. That means the heat index—often a few degrees higher than the actual temperature during humid spells—will be nearly identical to today’s highs.
In Manhattan and Brooklyn, temperatures will peak between 86°F and 88°F. Long Island communities like Islip, Riverhead, and Montauk will see slightly cooler readings, ranging from 80°F to 84°F. Northern counties including Poughkeepsie and Hartford should also expect highs in the low-to-mid 80s.
With dewpoints as low as 55°F in Westchester and Fairfield Counties, residents should notice a more comfortable feel outdoors, especially in shaded or breezy areas. Commuters and outdoor workers are still advised to stay hydrated and wear light-colored clothing, but the drop in humidity will help reduce heat-related stress.
This brief stretch of dry heat is expected to continue into Saturday before humidity returns by Sunday afternoon.
