New York, NY – The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning of an increased fire spread risk across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut on Saturday due to dry and windy conditions.
According to the NWS, northwest winds are expected to gust between 30 and 35 mph, while relative humidity levels could drop as low as 30%. This combination heightens the risk of wildfires spreading quickly. Officials urge residents to exercise caution with open flames, cigarette disposal, and machinery that could spark fires.
The advisory affects multiple counties, including Northern and Southern Fairfield, Northern and Southern New Haven, and parts of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties in New Jersey. The New York metro area, including all five boroughs and parts of Westchester, Rockland, and Suffolk counties, is also under the warning.
Fire and land management officials in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut have coordinated this advisory based on meteorological and fuel conditions. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire to local authorities immediately.
