New York, NY – Residents across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut should prepare for hazardous icy conditions overnight into Monday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several areas, including western Passaic, Orange, Rockland, and Putnam counties in New York. Northern Westchester, Fairfield, and Middlesex counties will also experience freezing rain and snow, mainly from 10 p.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. Monday.
Light snow is expected late Sunday evening before transitioning to freezing rain overnight. Ice accumulation of up to several hundredths of an inch could create slick roads and dangerous travel conditions. Snow accumulation will generally remain under an inch, though western Orange County could see up to two inches.
Commuters are urged to exercise caution during the Monday morning commute, particularly on untreated roads and elevated surfaces, which are most prone to ice buildup. The freezing rain will turn to plain rain by midday as temperatures rise above freezing.
Travelers should check local weather updates and allow extra time for their Monday morning plans.
